Human desires can be emotional, material or spiritual. They are infinite. Not a day goes by without us wishing for something. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be a little bit thinner, to have more money, to want a new phone, a new car or something else.

It's a problem when people try to be in control of what they want. Desire takes us away from the present. What we want can cause anxiety if we don't have it. The way to get out of this desire loop is to surrender.

The Universe always listens to us, that's why it's important to surrender our desires to the Universe. What does "surrender what we desire" acutally mean? It means that you must stop worrying about "when" and "if" when you wish for something to come true. You need to have faith that the Universe knows what is best for you. When you want something, just be happy, no matter the outcome.

How to practice surrendering your desires?

Surrendering doesn't mean that you give up on what you want. You aren't waving a white flag to the Universe. You are placing what you desire into the Universe's capable hands. You must trust that the Universe will bring you what you want.

Here are 5 ways to help you with practicing surrender:

  1. Allow yourself to feel everything: Try not to dismiss your feelings. The first step in surrender is to allow yourself to feel. If you resist what you feel, that feeling will grow because you give it importance and energy. When you allow yourself to feel, the feeling will become lighter over time.
  2. Seek moments of silence: At least once a day, try to isolate yourself and spend some alone time. Concentrate on your breathing. Many breathing techniques can help you with relaxing your body and mind.
  3. Practice kindness: Try to be kind to yourself and others. Being kind can put a mile on yours and another person's face. It can completely transform the energy around you. And don't forget, a smile is free.
  4. Practice gratitude: Be grateful for what you have and for all the little things in your life. For example when someone pays for your coffee, or gives up their seat on the bus/train for you. Write it all down in a journal that you only use for this purpose. Write about your breakfast, the walk with your dog, or a meaningful conversation with a friend. Gratitude is a powerful motivator. It shifts the focus from what you don't have to what you have and increases your satisfaction in life.
  5. Practice meditation: Meditation is one of the most powerful tools you have in surrendering. Through daily meditation, you practice to silence the noise in your head and you can connect better with your inner self.

Be in alignment with what you desire while surrendering.

The most important part of surrendering is to be in alignment with your desire. You need to have faith in the Universe. Being in alignment means that you don't need to chase what you wish for. It will come to you. You must trust the process.

I'm not going to lie, it will take time to manifest your desires. It will not come to you in one day. Whilst you are waiting to manifest what you want, follow your higher path and purpose:

* Take time to identify all your subconscious programs and negative beliefs.

* Be aware of the energy connection between what you currently desire and what you believe. It will help you identify any subconscious programming.

* Use affirmations to replace all beliefs that distract you and keep you out of alignment.

Being in a state of lack will not help you to be in alignment. If you tell yourself any statements where you are in a state of lack, change these thoughts around.

One exercise you can do, is to rewrite negative statements into positive ones. For example, "I don't have enough" becomes "I have enough", "I am not worth it" becomes "I am worth it", "I will never have enough" becomes "I always have enough", and so on.

Being in the now helps you manifest what you want.

Living in the present moment makes you feel more alive, happier and satisfied. To live in the present means that you are not thinking about the past or the future. You are in the moment, you enjoy what you are doing now.

It doesn't mean that you never think of the past or plan for the future. Being in the now helps you to release control over what happened in the past or what would happen in the future. The past implies thoughts and memories of events that once happend, and the futrure refers to imagining something hypothetical that we do or do not want to happen to us.

Being the now helps us to shift our focus from our desires. Living in the moment means not living in your thoughts but being aware of what you are doing now. It means that you have surrendered your desires to the Universe and that you trust the process.
